Getting old

February 26, 2006

Last night I went to bed at 7.30pm! How old am I?! I woke up this morning at 9.00am so that’s a whopping 13 and a half hours sleep!

Friday night was spent with somebody nice. Hope I get to see them again.

Today is a work-a-thon.

Argh!!!

February 15, 2006

The following things can fuck off today…

  • People at work who want things doing ten minutes ago
  • Coming home to find a letter from the bank saying they’re gonna chop my balls off cos I owe them money, then calling to sort out a “payment schedule” only to end up on the line with some patronising little blob of monkey spunk.
  • My brother having a seizure all the way up in Hull and I can do sweet fuck all from down here in Derby.
  • Students
  • Women

I am so tired it’s not even funny. I’m starting to hallucinate.

So much for doing a serious run tonight. Did 15 mins last night though, so I can feel slightly justified in having a lazy night and a few beers.

If my lecturer fucks me off tomorrow however, I will kick her fucking minge off.

Good night.

Where next…?

February 12, 2006

My FdA course is nearly at an end and I am now facing the ultimate question; Do I stay on to top it up to a BA or do I leave and get some work? The FdA is a minimum of two years, so I could leave in June with an FdA qualification and go out job hunting or do an extra optional year and leave with a BA(Hons).

Ladies & gentlemen of the jury, the case for leaving…

  • The organisation is an utter joke. I have spent the last two years being tacked onto the FdA Photo/Video modules and so have been taught almost exclusively by photographers and videographers. There have been numerous occasions where lecturers didn’t even know they had FdA New Media student in their lectures.
  • My course leader really doesn’t seem bothered about us. There are only three of us on the course and we just get forgotten about.
  • None of the tutors seem to communicate. We took on a major (and I mean major) piece of work at the end of last year which we were told (by the course leader) could be put towards one of this semesters modules. The module leader, on the other hand, wants an extensive file of research into a particular subject area – nothing at all like the job we took on! There seems to have been a major communication breakdown and the course leader doesn’t seem to know what will be expected of us for each module. It’s their fucking job to know!
  • I will have spent nearly £3,000 on tuition fees for a course run by utter cretins.

And the argument for staying on…

  • It’ll get me a BA
  • Its only another 7 months of shit to put up with

Likely scenario is that I will leave this summer with the intention of working for a year. Then I will reassess my position and if I’m happy and settled in a job, I’ll carry on indefinitely. If I’m finding it hard to land a job without the hallowed BA, I may have to grit my teeth and go back to study.

Time will tell, my friends.

Sweaty bastard

February 6, 2006

In some sort of bizarre, late New Years resolution type thang, I have started running (and I’m not the only one), so I will sporadically regale you with tales upon my return from my evening sojourns around the streets of Derby

I’d not actually been since last Weds, so tonight was a little bit of a struggle, but I still managed to tack an extra five minutes on the end (uphill no less!), making a grand total of 15 mins and 1.34 miles. OK, it may not sound that great, but for a guy who has always been “big” and who sits on on arse designing all day, it aint bad.

Nearly snapped my pissing ankle though going down a curb. That’ll teach me to run near building sites with uneven ground.

Anyway, shower time.

Just to clarify…

February 6, 2006

The following people are not funny and anyone who thinks they are is a terrible human being who probably burns the eyelids of little kittens

  • Ricky Gervais – Smug, self-satisfied prick who plays the same character in ‘The Office’ and his stand-up shows. It’s not funny. It’s horrendously boring
  • Little Britain – The most overrated heap of monkey spunk ever. If you want to see how catchphrases should be employed, go and watch The Fast Show or The Mary Whitehouse Experience. Walliams and Lucas should never have left ‘Rock Profile’

Chronologically challenged

You know you’re getting old when rock stars are younger than you, and you can remember when most of today’s current football managers used to play.

The most perfect song lyrics ever

February 5, 2006

Otis Redding – “That’s How Strong My Love Is” is possibly the most lyrically beautiful song ever written. Such vivid and gorgeous imagery. I suggest you all go out and buy an Otis Redding album and listen to nothing else for the rest of your lives.

If I was the Sun way up there
I’d go with love most everywhere
I’ll be the moon when the sun goes down
Just to let you know that I’m still around.

That’s how strong my love is, woh
that’s how strong my love is.
Thats how strong my love is baby. baby
that’s how strong my love is.

I’ll be the weeping willow drowning in my tears
And you can go swimming when you are here
I’ll be the rainbow after the tears are gone
Wrap you in my colors and keep you warm.

That’s how strong my love is, darling
That’s how strong my love is, baby
That’s how strong my love is, woh
That’s how strong my love is.

I’ll be the ocean so deep and wide
And catch all the tears whenever you cry
I’ll be the breeze after the storm is gone
To dry your eyes and love you all warm.

That’s how strong my love is, baby
That’s how strong my love is now
That’s how strong my love is, darling
That’ show strong my love is, again now.

That’s how strong my love is, so deep and wide
thats how strong my love
So much to love, yes so much to love, woh
there’s so much love, there’s so much love
Anything the sun can do I will do it for you
Any kind of love you want, I’ll be with you.
